Program Overview

Restore & Manage

Alabama Forestry Foundation works with private landowners to restore and manage shortleaf pine through technical assistance, educational workshops, and practical forest management strategies. Whether your goals include improving wildlife habitat, diversifying your forest, supporting timber production, or leaving a healthy forest for future generations, our team can help develop a management approach tailored to your property.

Together, we are restoring one of Alabama’s native forest ecosystems while strengthening the health, resilience, and productivity of working forests across the state.

Restoring a Native Alabama Forest

Shortleaf pine once covered millions of acres across the Southeast and remains one of Alabama’s most important native forest species. These forests provide valuable wildlife habitat, support working forests, and create resilient landscapes that can withstand fire, drought, insects, and changing environmental conditions.

Over time, however, many shortleaf pine forests have declined because of changes in land use, fire suppression, and limited natural regeneration. Restoring these forests helps improve biodiversity, strengthen forest health, and ensure Alabama’s working forests continue providing environmental and economic benefits for future generations.
