Growing the Next Generation of Forest Stewards

For more than 50 years, the Teachers Conservation Workshop has equipped Alabama educators with the knowledge, resources, and confidence to bring forestry and natural resource education into their classrooms. Through this immersive professional development experience, teachers gain a deeper understanding of Alabama’s well-managed forests and the important role they play in our state’s environment, economy, and quality of life.

By investing in educators, Alabama Forestry Foundation helps ensure thousands of students each year learn about the value of forests, conservation, sustainable forestry, wildlife, and natural resources. The Teachers Conservation Workshop remains one of the most effective ways to inspire future generations of informed citizens and forest stewards.

What Teachers Experience

Attending the Workshop

Teachers Conservation Workshop is designed as an immersive experience that helps educators connect real-world forestry practices with engaging classroom instruction. Teachers interested in attending must first complete a Project Learning Tree® workshop, which provides the foundational curriculum and teaching tools that help educators integrate forestry and environmental concepts into their classrooms.

The workshop is held each summer at the Auburn University College of Forestry, Wildlife, and the Environment. The Teachers Conservation Workshop combines classroom instruction, field experiences, and hands-on learning opportunities.

Participants Will:

  1. Learn from Auburn University faculty and experienced forestry professionals

  2. Explore sustainable forest management practices firsthand

  3. Visit the Mary Olive Thomas Demonstration Forest

  4. Tour an East Alabama forest products facility to see how trees become everyday products

  5. Discover connections between forests, wildlife, conservation, and the economy

  6. Receive Project Learning Tree ® resources and classroom-ready activities

  7. Develop practical ways to incorporate forestry and environmental education into their curriculum
